VOLUNTEER INFORMATION CENTRE (VIC) ASSISTANTS

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Volunteer Information Centre (VIC) Coordinator, the VIC Assistant will help ensure that the volunteer experience at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games is consistent with the organization’s vision.

The Primary areas of responsibility of the VIC Assistant includes; ensuring the VIC Volunteers are kept up to date and informed of all new processes and changes, leading VIC Volunteer engagement, assist with new phone screeners, ensuring issue logs are up to date and resolved.

This may include working with the VIC Coordinator in developing and implementing appropriate procedures and systems, recruiting and training of staff, developing appropriate messaging and creating an issues resolution process.  The position will assist in overseeing a large group of Volunteers working in a facility.

More broadly the VIC Assistant will help support the VIC Coordinator in working with various functions, in particular Volunteer Recruitment and Administration Team to ensure that the customer experience for all Volunteers is consistent and aligned with the organization’s objectives across every step of the volunteer journey.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The VIC Assistant will assist and support the VIC Coordinator in the day-to-day activities such as:
• Assist with recruitment (telephone interviews and Just In Time training)
• Maintain issue tracking /resolution mechanisms and or monitor management issues (SalesForce)
• Work closely with other functions to ensure messaging in the VIC is current
• Assist and run daily VIC discussion groups
• Coordinate and lead VIC engagement
• Other duties as may be assigned

ELIGIBILITY:

Post-Secondary student returning to school in fall ‘09
Must be fluent in English (French or International language an asset)
Desired:
Previous experience in a call centre environment
Customer service skills
Writing and presentation skills

The apology to residential school survivors made by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Leaders of the opposition parties was definitely a step in a very positive direction.

It is my sincere hope those survivors that are still here with us and for those that have left family behind, this will be the true beginning of the healing journey.

I was fortunate that I did not attend residential school. My mother attended Lejac and my siblings attended Prince George College, which has not been granted residential school status. As a consequence, I know very little about my native language as our mother did not want to teach us out of fear.

I sincerely hope that this is the beginning of truth and reconciliation.

We will gather from across the Lower Mainland in Vancouver
at 12:00 noon at 3 start points:

 Hastings & Main
 Peace Flame Park (south end of Burrard Bridge )

In addition, people from all around the province will hold local marches and/or rallies — in the Comox Valley , Colwood, Cranbrook , Gibsons, Kamloops , Kelowna , Mission , Nanaimo , Nelson, Prince George , Princeton, Quesnel, Revelstoke, Richmond , Sechelt, Smithers, Terrace, and in Victoria where 9 organizations will lead their march to the steps of the Legislature. We gather in unity with those who are homeless, those who are one landlord’s decision or one paycheque away from homelessness, and those who live in unhealthy, unsafe, or overcrowded conditions.

We call on our governments to end homelessness.

We call on our governments to build permanent social housing.

We call on our governments to raise the minimum wage and welfare.

We call on our governments to protect rentals and renters.
