Position: Provincial Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance Co-Coordinator

The United Native Nations Society (UNN) is a provincial Aboriginal organization that represents non-status, off-reserve and urban aboriginal peoples in BC. The mission of the UNN is to promote the continuation and advancement of Aboriginal peoples, to protect our Spiritual and Cultural Heritage; to foster unity, friendship, tolerance and human rights; to protect our children; to empower our People and to take our rightful place among the nations of the world.

Nature and Scope of Work
This is an Urban Aboriginal Provincial Youth Governance initiative geared towards the promotion and administrative support for an Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance structure for and by Aboriginal Youth.  This initiative will facilitate regional and provincial youth governance meetings throughout the province.  These meetings will be the foundation of a Provincial Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance Structure.

Communication:
• Develop and implement a communications strategy that enables a flow of information relevant to the initiative.
• Gather relevant information for the promotion and communication of Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance.
• Receives and responds to Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance inquiries.
• Communicates with other relevant Aboriginal youth councils and initiatives across the province
• Ability to organize and facilitate meetings and workshops on selected topics.

Marketing:
• Assist in the development and implementation of a marketing strategy to promote Urban Aboriginal Youth governance.
• Create promotional media for the Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
• Ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse constituency of adults, organizations and youth.
• Can work in a self-paced, highly independent environment.
• Conduct themselves in professional manner.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with other youth councils.
• Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to prepare and maintain records, files and reports.

Administration:
• Prepares status reports for each regional and provincial youth governance meetings.
• Assists in the coordination of regional meetings, travel, food, accommodations, venue, and activities.
• Prepares, synthesizes and disseminates time sensitive information.
• Assist in the compilation of a completed project report and recommendations for Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance.

SCOPE:  Full time position, flexible schedule, must be available some evening and weekends.  Applicants with Aboriginal ancestry preferred.
