Aboriginal Tourism Programs

2 Locations:
Osoyoos Indian Band, Osoyoos, B.C.

The Native Education College is a large private Aboriginal college in Vancouver and also works with First Nations and Aboriginal organizations to deliver programs in locations throughout British Columbia.  We strive to combine academic excellence with a strong commitment to First Nations community-based education and the best practices of adult education.  Our programs have Aboriginal content and delivery methods and offer credit transfer to colleges and universities.

The Aboriginal Tourism programs provide a certificate in tourism operations (specializing in heritage tourism and ecotourism) and a diploma in tourism management.  The Coordinator/Instructor of Aboriginal Tourism Programs reports to the Academic Dean and supervises the sessional instructors in the program.  The Coordinator/Instructor will establish, monitor and evaluate the field experience activities for students in the program.  They will also teach one classroom-based course each semester in the areas of heritage tourism, ecotourism, customer services, special events, human resource management, tourism law, organizational dynamics or financial management.

 Qualifications:
Any combination of education and work experience as follows will be considered;

  • Degree in business management, tourism or a related field
  • Work experience in the tourism industry or the post-secondary education system;
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal values, communities, and instructional methodology; and,
  • Aboriginal ancestry or experience working with Aboriginal organizations.

Appointment to this position will require a formal criminal record check, the details of which may preclude an offer of employment being finalized.

January 7, 2008 to February 2, 2008 (Osoyoos)*
January 7, 2008 – end April 2008 (Vancouver)
Hours:      8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday
Salary:     As per NEC faculty salary scale
