The United Native Nations Society (UNN) is a provincial Aboriginal organization that represents non-status, off-reserve and urban aboriginal peoples in BC. The mission of the UNN is to promote the continuation and advancement of Aboriginal peoples, to protect our Spiritual and Cultural Heritage; to foster unity, friendship, tolerance and human rights; to protect our children; to empower our People and to take our rightful place among the nations of the world.

RECEPTIONIST

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Greets the public in a courteous, professional and helpful manner
 Ensures that the Reception area including common area is kept tidy and clean at all times
 Manages a 6 line switchboard, (two phones system) in a courteous, professional and helpful manner, answers enquiries, takes messages and directs telephone traffic appropriately
 Record/log/distribute incoming/outgoing mail and faxes
 Maintains a current knowledge of resources and developments in the community and acts as a resource for all enquiries pertaining to resources and community developments
 Maintains an accurate  and ongoing database of resources and community contacts
 Ensures the accurate and prompt filing of correspondence and resource materials
 Assists in the development of on-going data management systems
 Assists in the development of templates
 Has a basic understanding of the Jay Treaty  and the types of Jay Treaty letters
 Has a basic understanding of how to complete membership applications/forms
 Maintains office supply inventory
 Ensures that office equipment is in working order, see supervisor before placing any service calls
 Will take minutes for; board, staff, committee and forum meetings as required
 Performs tasks as assigned to ensure the productive functioning of the UNN

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Minimum high school completion with post secondary schooling an asset
 Completion of one year Office Administration
 At least two years of related receptionist experience
 Extensive computer skills
 Minimum of 60 w.p.m.
 Knowledge of Aboriginal Culture
 Ability to maintain confidentiality
 Strong communication skills both oral and written
 Excellent organizations skills an asset  

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Executive Director

SCOPE:  Permanent Full time position, Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Salary depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants with Aboriginal ancestry preferred.

Hundreds Turnout in Vancouver for the DTES Smudge Ceremony

 December 7, 2007

 Yesterday, the President of the United Native Nations Lillian George paid respect to the DTES missing and murdered women by participating in a smudging ritual on the intersection of Main and Hastings Street in Vancouver. She was joined by her colleague, the National Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal People, Patrick Brazeau and several hundred supporters who filled the intersection.

Aboriginal President Outraged For the Disregard of Essential Support for Aboriginal Women and Children
