The Urban Native Youth Association requires the services of an experienced and creative website designer and developer to assist us with developing a youth portal (parallel site) for our website. The overall goal of the project will be to create a youth friendly site that will provide similar information to the content on our www.unya.bc.ca site, but be more reflective of Native youth culture and relevant to their needs.
The successful applicant will have strong design, development, writing, inter-personal, communications, creative, and organizational skills. S/he will work closely with the Executive Director, UNYA staff, and Native youth representatives to identify, design, and develop content for the site. S/he will have a proven track record of working in collaboration with the Aboriginal community – and youth in particular – in website development or marketing related initiatives. S/he will be willing and able to mentor an Aboriginal youth in website design and development (if a young person is identified either before or during the course of the contract).
The contract must be fully completed within two months of the start date. The successful candidate will be required to begin work as soon as Monday November 12, 2007. As this is a contract position, the successful applicant will provide his/her own work space, equipment, and transportation, and will develop the site in a software program that can be easily converted to work within Dream Weaver. All materials and intellectual property shared and developed during the term of this contract will be the sole property of the Urban Native Youth Association. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal youth applicants.
What must be submitted in order to be considered:
- Maximum two pages explaining your proposed vision for the youth site and how you will develop it with youth participants. Also include one page with a detailed budget and timeline
- List of current websites that you have designed and/or developed, with notes on
whether you designed and/or developed each of them - Resume with at least three relevant references
- Cover letter (be sure to note the competition that you are interested in)
Please submit a complete package (with all the information above), stating the competition that you are submitting for, to the attention of the Executive Director.
Resumes will not be reviewed without a covering letter and references, or if they are
submitted late. No enquiries. Only those short-listed will be contacted.
