Agreement reached on the future of Native Education College (NEC)

NEWS RELEASE

Vancouver – The Native Education College Board of Directors is pleased to announce that after reviewing the results of an independent review of its programs and services and discussions with the Ministry of Advanced Education, it has decided  to remain open to serve the Aboriginal post-secondary learning community.  Discussions between the NEC Board of Directors, the First Nations Leadership Council and the Ministry of Advanced Education have resulted in plans for the NEC to continue to function as a private Aboriginal education institution with existing government contributions to NEC to continue. IDEA: UNN advocate for Spirit of the Children Society

WHEREAS Spirit of the Children Society is a newly incorporated agency registered under the Societies Act of BC and in good standing

WHEREAS Spirit of the Children Society is designated and contracted by MCFD to provide family strengthening and support services to Aboriginal families in the Tri Cities, New Westminster and Burnaby

WHEREAS the UNN is founded on the slogan “Working Together for Our Children”

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT UNN advocate for SOTCS to become a signatory, as a service provider, to the Tsawwassen Accord MOU, which is being renewed September 2007 or soon thereafter.
