Attention: UNN members and non members
On this Friday, February the 9th, 2007, the United Native Nations (UNN) will be hosting a forum held at the W.I.S.E hall located at 1882 Adanac Street. The Education of the Independent Urban Indian forum will focus on the “new relationship” which was established by the B.C provincial government in 2005. The forum will have two guest speakers;
Taiaiake Gerald Alfred is a Kanien’kehaka scholar and orator who has dedicated himself to indigenous struggles for dignity, unity, and strength. He is a prominent voice in scholarly circles and an award-winning journalist known for his passionate and incisive commentary on politics and culture. He is currently a professor at the University of Victoria, and lives with his wife in the territory of the Saanich Nation.
Myriam Hernandez is from Mexico City. She came to Canada as a political refugee in 1998. Since 1999, she started to work as a volunteer in two collectives. One is: Building Bridges Human Rights Project-Vancouver and the other one is Latin America Connexions (critical news and analysis). In Mexico, I worked for many years in rural areas as part of professional teams working for social and development programs.
