Job Description
Position: Assistant, Urban Aboriginal Events
Responsible To: Urban Aboriginal Events Coordinator
General Description: Provide overall administrative and project event support services to the GVUAS Urban Aboriginal events projects. Assist with community relations, communications, event management, and brand management.
Specific Accountabilities / Deliverables:
Administration
- File management
- Research potential venues and community partners
- Prepare reporting documents
- Database management
- Venue, Catering and entertainment booking
- Scheduling
- Manage and record income and expenses of the projects including tracking of purchases and invoices
- Transcribe, collate, copy and file correspondence, reports, charts, minutes and other documents as required
- Critical path and timeline management on key projects
- Maintain regular contact and send reports to the GVUAS Committee
- Provide other miscellaneous administrative support as it arises
Event Management
- Assist with the planning and execution of events
- Ensure key deliverables are met for all project partners
- Coordinate and prepare all event materials
- Liaise with community groups and leaders to promote events
- Manage inventory and track collateral materials for all events
- Manage the purchase of collateral materials from various suppliers
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role;
- Good writing skills;
- Planning ability with a demonstrated track record in problem solving;
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to deliver services on time in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment;
- A natural attention to detail is essential;
- Strong community relationships;
- Exceptional computer skills in Word, Powerpoint, Excel,
- Personable, adaptable and possesses a strong sense of teamwork and commitment to building relationships;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

United Native Nations (UNN) working in partnership with Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association (KAYA), will be hosting five Provincial Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance meetings in five regions throughout the province over the next three months, Victoria, Kamloops, Prince George, Prince Rupert and Vancouver.
UNN is looking to invite urban Aboriginal youth from these regions and surrounding areas who, want to discuss what the creation of regional/provincial urban Aboriginal youth governance roundtables would look like. These meetings will be the foundation for creating a youth driven provincial urban Aboriginal youth political roundtable that will be comprised of peer elected representatives from each of the regions. These roundtable committees will give input on how to enable urban Aboriginal youth governance within the province giving voice to urban Aboriginal youth concerns, issues, ideas and solutions with communities and government.
These meetings will be held to support already existing youth councils and processes and to work towards the creation of a Provincial Urban Aboriginal Youth Political Roundtable to help increase urban Aboriginal youth voice.
The first youth Governance meeting will be held in Victoria January 27th 28th, 2007 There is limited travel and accommodation funding for youth who would like to attend who reside outside of Victoria.
