Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association (KAYA) is hosting a Provincial Urban Aboriginal Youth Engagement Think-tank the first weekend in January 5-7th, 2007. KAYA is looking to invite urban Aboriginal youth from around the Province who are engaged with their community, community processes and youth processes to discuss what the creation of youth engagement policy would look like.
This forum is funded by the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconcilization (MARR) to create youth driven disscusion to give input to government regarding Aboriginal youth engament policy, internship opportunities, and mentorship enhancment.
This forum will also serve as a prelude to a provincial initiative funded by MARR and the Federal Interlocular to create regional Urban Aboriginal Youth Governance meetings through United Native Nations (UNN). These youth governace meetings will take place from January to March in the following five regions, Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Prince Rupert and Prince George. These meetings will be held to support already existing youth councils and processes and to work towards the creation of a Provincial Urban Aboriginal Youth Political Roundtable to help increase Aboriginal youth voice, issues, concerns and ideas throughout the Province.
We have funding for up to ten youth under the age of 29 from around the province and 10 form the GVRD to attend this Think-Tank. Travel, food and accomodation will be provided. Please reply ASAP as space will fill up fast. Please contact me for anymore information at 604-254-5513 or reply via e-mail by January 2nd, 2007.
