Strong Support for UNN Executive in Election

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENT

(Coast Salish Territory/VANCOUVER) The United Native Nations (UNN) 37th Annual General Assembly and the election for the positions of President and Vice President took place at the Mount Paul Centre in
Kamloops, B.C. on August 11th, 12th, 13th, 2006. With overwhelming support, Lillian George defeated challengers Tom Oleman and Bill Wilson to earn another term as president.   Incumbent David Dennis re-elected for another term in office as Vice-President and was successful in defeating opponents, June Clearsky, Vicki George and Debbie Krull.

For the first time in years, the Annual General Assembly had a large turnout of members and voters.  This year, 187 members registered to vote and approximately 300 members attended the 3 day meetings. 

The incumbent leaders, Dennis and George both stated how they will continue to represent urban aboriginal issues and more specifically housing and homelessness.   During the Assembly, Dennis and George both expressed how the United Native Nations looks forward to continue working with the Federal and Provincial Governments and building on the new relationship.
